A night in Winthrop, WA

Winthrop is close enough to where I live in central Washington that I was able to do a quick night with my best friend in November. We stayed at River’s Edge Resort which is situated right at the edge of downtown. It was nice to be able to park at our cabin and walk most places. We loved staying here. Our biggest draw was the hot tub on the balcony with a view of the river. It was perfect.
We arrived a little early and our cabin wasn’t ready, so we parked our car and walked through some of the shops downtown. I grabbed a few Christmas gifts for my kids. Winthrop is a really cute little western-themed town. I’m sure it has its times of the year where it is quite busy, but I’ve always managed to go during the quieter off-season.
When our cabin was ready we unloaded our stuff and took in the view from the balcony.
We decided to check out the outdoor ice skating rink, since neither of us had experienced one before. It was pretty cool, and seems to be a popular spot for those of all ages.
After, we grabbed dinner at Meza. The food was good – we got some things to share. On our walk back to the cabin we debated stopping in to Old Schoolhouse Brewing – a really cool brewery inside of an old schoolhouse building – but it was chilly and the hot tub was calling our name! We went back and soaked for a bit and then watched a movie.
In the morning we walked to the Little Dipper Cafe for coffee and pastries, which we took back to our cabin. Everything we got from there was great.
After a final soak in the hot tub, we packed up and checked out. We went to the Shafer Historical Museum before leaving town. It’s outdoors and pretty cool to walk through. We also stopped at the health food market in Twisp for some juices which were made fresh right there – so good.
Here’s hoping we can stay at Rivers Edge Resort in Winthrop again!
